Call that a shower? I stood on the back lawn for quarter of an hour and saw several planes but only one meteor. It lasted for less than a second.

It was a clear night. Well, clearish. There were clouds around the horizon but the view to the top of the sky was unobstructed. I've forgotten most of my star-craft but this would be a good time and place to relearn it.

you have the rest of the week to possibly see any meteors, depending on cloud cover etc.

I may have another look tonight. It looks as though it's going to be fairly clear.

Planes are good but what time were you out? I was watching between around 01.45 to 02.45 and saw a couple of dozen, at least.

I was out very early, around 10.30. I guess the shower was only beginning to get under way.

A very light meteor shower! I was out at four this morning, shivering and clutching my tea, and saw about one every five minutes... They were quite impressively bright though.

I believe we were promised around 40 an hour.

The one I saw was quite bright- but I've seen brighter.

A few years ago, a friend and I camped out in her backyard to watch the Perseids. They had been going on and on about how there'd be 100 per hour. We saw about 10 in five hours. And they were not that impressive. I haven't been out to watch them since. I got about a million mosquito bites that night too. I'm lucky I didn't get malaria.

What I want to know is why they can't turn up at a reasonable time of day- like early afternoon. I don't like missing out on my sleep.

To be visible at that time of day, they'd be rather frightening, I suspect. LOL. Huge balls of flame hurtling across the sky. I can already hear my mother intoning, "It's a sign of the End Times."

Ack.
