1. I cooked asparagus for the first time.

2. I saw a green woodpecker on the lawn.

How did you cook your asparagus? (I steamed some yesterday, and roasted a bunch more today.)

Boiled it.

I'd have steamed it if I'd had a steamer to hand

If I cook asparagus, will I get a green woodpecker on my lawn, too?

I'd even try cooking asparagus if I thought I'd get to see a green woodpecker! (grin)

We get a lot of woodpeckers around here, but I've never seen a GREEN one! I'm... (wait for it)... GREEN with envy!

Hahahahahahaha.

(hugs)

I cook mine standing up in an old metal coffee pot. That way the butts get boiled and the tops get steamed. Takes only about 5 minutes.

Or sometimes I pan fry with butter-- yum.

I give you joy of your green woodpecker!

That's an excellent wheeze.

I think I may try frying some for lunch.

Actually I preferred them boiled. If ypu pan fry them all you can taste is the butter.

I know they cannot be related, but I wonder what other birds you'd get for other meals.

I am glad you have good things.

Anything with plums in it guarantees blackbirds.

I pan fry with butter or saute in butter and chicken broth. Occasionally I add a little lemon juice.

Asparagus remains one of my utmost favorite vegetables. ^_^ So easy - just boil for a couple minutes, or, if you're wanting to go that bit extra, sauté in a little butter, adding whatever herbs/seasonings catch your fancy, like a dash of pepper, garlic, and lemon juice.

There are a few green woodpeckers hereabouts - very awkward to photograph, unfortunately, as they always make a straight course for cover once they take off, so unless you see them first, there isn't really time to get a photo, whatever the equipment. But perhaps, if they return there, you can be waiting for them! (Be warned: if you get nipped by the wildlife photography bug, it can be costly =:)

Yeah, I think I'll leave wildlife alone and stick to buildings. Buildings don't fly away. Also I've seen the competition and it intimidates me.

I like to broil asparagus with olive oil, pine nuts and a bit of feta. (The feta gets thrown on after it's done broiling.) The timing is really hard, because you can have undercooked asparagus or charred asparagus really quickly.
