We took my mother to the hairdresser. While she was being seen to we went and joined the Paddock Wood public library.

Then we went shopping. My mother likes to go to the expensive shop and buy the budget lines; we prefer to go to the budget shop and (sometimes) buy the expensive lines. I won't, won't, wont buy cheap sausages! (stamps foot). I was dreading the tussle of wills but it wasn't too bad.

I'm reading Jo Nesbo. Handsome Scandi detective is sent to Oz on routine serial killer investigation, meets blackfella, blackfella imparts ancestral wisdom, meets beautiful Scandi bar-girl, beautiful Scandi bar-girl shags him, meets gay clown, gay clown gets dismembered...

Perceived loss of autonomy and privacy is really hard on older people. Younger ones, too. I don't envy you the adjustment.

Exactly. We're older people and my mother is even older people. We're all set in our ways.

In this context, I was thinking of you and Ailz as the "younger ones." I don't think I'd fancy moving back home with the parents at my age. Nor moving in with my children. The latter is possible, at least theoretically; the former is not.
