poliphiloAccording to former students, Chetham's School of Music- now being rocked by sex abuse scandals- was a place where it was normal for staff and students to be on first name terms.
I'd always thought calling the teacher "Sir" or "Miss" was about affording the teacher status and protection. I now see it protects the pupil too.
