Watching Snow, Counting Birds

It snowed heavily overnight. Real sticky, fluffy snow at last. I stood at the window and watched it driving down against a background of yellow cloud. Now there's a thaw in progress. If the rain follows- as forecast- the snow should mostly be gone by tomorrow. 

I spent an hour this morning participating in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. My score is:

1 dunnock
1 blackbird
2 wood pigeons
1 great tit
1 collared dove
2 starlings
1 magpie
2 sparrows
1 robin.

I'm only sorry the thrush didn't show up. Otherwise I logged all the birds I was expecting to.

It's also known as a hedge sparrow. It's a drab, speckledy bird a little bigger than a house sparrow.
