Dot asked us to take a look at her fruit trees this morning. Usually we get a great crop off them but not this year.  The apple tree had two apples on it, the plum tree had one tiny plum, the pear tree has done better, but not nearly as well as usual. Ailz says it's been a bad year for fruit across the country.

We didn't have any plums this year either. And that was sad because it usually has so many we give them away.

I was disappointed. I love plums. If I want any this year I'll have to buy them- and I'll bet they'll be expensive.

It is not a good year for fruit or veg. Our veg box contains a jeremiad every week. The life of a vegetarian this summer is far more carrotty than I would like. Where are my beans and soft fruit and stone fruit and general fresh zingy stuff? Sigh.

I dislike carrots. We buy them for the rabbits.

The drought over here has been desperately hard on tree fruit. My friend who has two pear trees has no pears at all this year and very few apples.

The weather people have been advising us to water our trees--if we don't get a very snowy winter this year, we may lose about 50% of our trees.

I love trees. Sigh.

Over here the trouble has been too much rain and not enough sun.

Ma has zero fruit to pick from her apple and pear trees. The small crop has disappeared...maybe squirrels benefitted.

So what does this mean for the Kentish fruit farmers?
