Grass

Our yard is paved and the only place to grow grass for the rabbits to eat is in the flowerbed. I've been cultivating a patch for about six months now. Ailz bought the seed on line; there's plantain grass which is coarse and timothy grass which is fine; she also bought dandelion seed but that did absolutely nothing. I go check my grass several times a day. The rabbits not only eat it but also lie in it- which discourages it; I wish they wouldn't. I'd re-seed the bald spots, but I don't suppose there's much point now with winter coming on.

Plant alfalfa and sweet clover. your rabbits will adore you. also, consider buying some long shallow planters. Plant your rabbit fodder in that.

Thanks for the suggestions.

We have some of those planters.

PS. We've just ordered alfalfa and sweet clover (plus some other things) on-line.

Hmmmm - maybe you can hire someone to come in and break up some of the pavement - then you'd have more ground on which to plant? That way, even if the rabbits were laying in it, there would still be plenty of places left growing?

Not really an option. It's a very small yard- and we had the paving slabs laid so Ailz could get her mobility scooter to the back gate. :)

Do you have hay for the bunnies to lay in? When it gets colder they might like that better as it's warmer.
The grass planters are a good solution as well and I see somebody already suggested that.

Yes, we give them hay. We buy great bales of the stuff :)

Autumn is a good time to plant grass seed. Jenny x

I may do it then. We've just ordered a lot of seeds.
