The papping of the Duchess of Cambridge is clearly a matter of public interest but should it really be the headline story on a day when western embassies are going up in smoke all over the Middle East?
It's not a bloody matter of public interest. It's gross and wrong, but it is hardly worthy of any headline, let alone, as you say, a top headline on a day like this. Bloody oxygen-sucking royals.
Why is the media making a circus out of the dignity of the Duchess of Cambridge? Topless sunbathing on a rooftop is done in many parts of the world where there is sunshine enough. Why should Duchess Kate not avail herself of continental sunshine? I also disapproved of the "friend" of Prince Harry who sold the party photos of the Prince to the yellow journalists. Some things are just wrong. I also have noted, on the same theme, that the media is giving far too much ink to whomever was wearing a "revealing" skirt or top. I thought those days had gone by long ago. My words to the press? "Quit it!"
It's trivial stuff. The Duchess sunbathes in the nude. Big deal. It raises the issues of privacy and press intrusion, but they're fairly trivial too, I think, in the scale of things.
The appropriate reaction is probably one recorded from a man in the street when asked about Prince Edward's engagement to Sophie Rees-Whatsit: "I cannot overcome my overwhelming indifference."
Surely it's not the sunbathing/toplessness that's a problem - it's people (not just royalty) being photographed without their knowledge - like the fuss that went on about Google Streets, until the complaint system was put in place. Also, it's particularly shocking in France, where (I'm told) privacy laws are even stricter than in the UK
A tempest in a B cup, really, and just the sort of vulgarity one should expect from ersatz royals. A real princess, like Caroline of Monaco, would -- and did -- bear her breast with grace and pride.
On the positive side, we can no longer number Kate among the utterly useless rich, since she's at least proven good for a cheap thrill on a slow day.
