On The One Hand...

Ailz dropped a pair of tights on the stairs. "Don't forget the pair of tights on the stairs," she said. "I won't," I said. A minute later I was going downstairs and trod on something soft and slippy and my feet went from under me and the papers I was carrying went up in the air as I grabbed for the bannister and somehow or other kept myself upright (though slanted) and avoided breaking my back.

Reactions: still pretty fast

Short term memory: lousy.

I'm very glad you weren't hurt.

I've slipped down an entire flight of stairs before and then just had to lie there for a bit while I tested that nothing was broken. Never been so happy to stand up on my own two feet in my life.

I fell off a loft ladder once- that was my closest brush with serious injury.

And then there was the bicycle into the bush thing.

you are the second person on my flist to have fallen down the stairs.

I'm very glad you are alright.

I had a flashback to when I slipped on wet stairs last year and the bruises lasted for weeks. I'm glad you managed to right yourself in time and that no major damage occured!

I was a bit shook up, but no bruises.

I have that sort of short-term memory myself sometimes.

Do you think we should be worried?

[identity profile] daisytells.livejournal.com 2012-09-12 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno about that "should be". I AM worried about my little lapses, which are mostly things I forgave in myself when I was twenty or thirty. I think we are just more sensitive now, watching for signs of dementia. I wonder if this constant vigilance of self might not push people into dementia sometimes? The important thing here is that I am very glad you did not fall. Broken bones in later life take such a horribly long time to heal.

Yes, indeed.

I may well have been just as absent minded when I was a kid. I don't know. Absent mindedness is something to laugh at when you're young.

Nah, not yet!! ;-)
