Stocking Up

I went to the library yesterday. I've exhausted their supplies of Mantell and Byatt so I just let things call to me from the shelves.

Hey, I'm The Satanic Verses: I know you think my author is a twat but have you entirely lost your taste for blasphemy?

I'm worthy.  I'm The God of Small Things.  I won the Booker.

Look how much shelf space I take up. I'm The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo. Don't tell me you're not interested in girl punk hacker geniuses!

Where are you going in such a hurry? Come on, give a book a break. I'm Tamara Drewe and don't I look like fun?

I gave ear to them all. The Olympics is upon us. There'll be nothing on TV but running, jumping and standing to attention while national anthems are played. Books will most definitely be needed.

Hee! Good choices. I have read them all, though the Satanic Verses many years ago. Do let me know what you think of them. Tamara Drewe is very definitely my favourite

Tamara Drewe is delightful. I've been a fan of Posy Simmonds since forever.

I remember The Satanic Verses as being dense -- chewy, even -- but I don't remember anything else about it.

I'm not sure I'll like it- In fact I've a strong suspicion I won't- but I'm prepared to give it a try.

Ha! That's a good description. I just read it recently. I enjoyed it, but I felt like I was missin an awful lot of stuff that I should have been picking up on.

Heh. I've got Larsson in the to-read pile.

At these times I'm glad I don't have a TV. But the Olympics will get to me somehow. Lead-lined box time, methinks.

I'm afraid the Olympics is compulsory.

It bewilders me - all these channels, and it's almost impossible to find anything un-Olympics-related

It's tiresome, isn't it?
