Wortley

wortley

When we're going on a longish journey we usually contrive to leave the direct route at some point so we can eat lunch and I can wander about and take pictures. Yesterday we found ourselves here- at Wortley in South Yorkshire.

We always try to take alternate routes as well. You see much more that way.
Lovely Yorkshire countryside!

I like to get off the beaten trail. Motorways are a great convenience, but I'd rather avoid them if I can.

I'm always a little stunned at the way power lines are run along the crests of ridges in Britain.

I don't hate them. They add verticals to the landscape- just as church spires do.

Beautiful! It looks a bit like where I grew up in rural Missouri.

Byways are so much more fun than highways, and the pace is slower, too.

Yes.

Our satnav loves narrow, winding, country roads- and we're happy to indulge her.
