A General Round-Up

Normally we shop at Sainsbury's. This week- as a favour to Dot- we went to Morrison's in Dukinfield. They're cheap. I bought a punnet of seven peaches and a bag of seven oranges for £1.00 each. 

It's been raining. And raining.  Other parts of the UK have had floods. The weather people say it's down to the Jet Stream- which normally flies over the Arctic- slipping down south. In the pharmacy the other day we noticed they were selling sun oil half price.

George Osborne and Ed Balls want to turn the banking scandal into a party political point-scoring game- as if we didn't already hold their profession in enough contempt.

The Wimbledon men's semifinals were less exciting than I expected. I wanted Federer to win, but I didn't think he would and certainly not as easily.

I find Sainsbury's fruit and veg particularly expensive - but I'm lucky in my local greengrocer.

Also, Morrison's at Boroughbridge is our substitute for a motorway service station on the way south.

Sainsbury's is expensive. I've not being buying their peaches because I simply can't afford them.

We don't have Sainsbury's here. Morrisonn's are in Bangor and Caernarfon. I find that their fruit isn't always of the highest quality - you need to check the bottom of the punnet -

You buy cheap fruit, you take your chances. I've had bad stuff from the Sainsbury's Basics range. The peaches I bought at Morrisons are very ripe, on the edge of over-ripe, but delicious.

We need rain here desperately, but all the rain goes to the north of us. Up in Duluth, which is about 8 hours away, they had devastating floods. In the Twin Cities, about an hour north of us, they have had plenty of rain--mostlhy in the form of bad storms that knock down trees and tear off roofs.

Down here, we have been having terrible heat--over 100 degrees a couple of days--and bone dry. Yuck.

That sounds harsh. It's almost unheard of for our temperatures to reach 100. When I first visited the States (in the 1970s) I'd never experienced anything like it.
