Care Package

The social worker came to see us at Eric's bedside and talked to us about putting a care package together. Eric had his eyes open much of the time but didn't seem to be taking any of it in.

Surely it can't be deliberate - it has to be a mental illness that has made him like this.

"Shrug". I don't know. I can't read him. He was totally compus mentis when he went into hospital a month ago.

This isn't an uncommon story, I'm afraid - it happens so often that a problem is revealed in hospital - perhaps because of the separation from daily things and familiar surroundings
I hope that the social worker is as good as my mother's was - I don't know how I'd have coped without her -

This young woman seemed very competent, but we've only met her the once.

He has gone downhill quickly, hasn't he? Perhaps the infections have affected his mental capabilities. He's also far away from what he knew as his routine.
It's sad.

I'm a little shocked at the speed of his decline.
