On The Eve Of The Red Dawn

Ailz has run herself into the ground with visiting her dad in hospital every day, so we took a day off and she spent it in bed and I got to snooze in the back yard with the latest copy of Current Archaeology. Apparently medieval people were quite nice to lepers after all- building them hospitals and burying them with decency. Ailz has a postal vote but I like having to make the effort of walking to the polling station and going through the closeted ritual with the paper and the pencil stub.  I voted for the Labour candidate and she won. Usually I vote for people who don't have a prayer and it's nice, for a change, to be riding the crest of the wave.

I worry about Labour returning to power without abandoning the neo-Liberalism that brought the country to such a sorry state. Unless Miliband abandons his deficit foolery and starts fighting for jobs and justice, he's as big a threat to the socio-economic future of Britain as Cameron.

Me too.

But I think neo-liberalism is rapidly going out of fashion. My hope is Miliband will have cottoned onto this by the time of the next general election.

Milliband strikes me as a deeply political animal and, as such, is unlikely to have any real core principles. Hopefully, he'll see the light in due course.

The victory of Obama over the Clintons seemed to mark the end of neo-liberalism on this side, or at least its severe decline. I hope to never see its like again on these shores.

So glad to see that there is sanity on your side of the pond. Here's hoping it spreads to my side.

Amen.

In the Daily Mail the other day was an article saying that Tony Blair was talking to Milliband and 'helping' him - while getting ready to re-engage with British politics.

For a more balanced view here's the Independent's take on it:

I don't suppose one Labour leader can refuse to take calls from an earlier (very successful) one- but...oh dear!

I like all the ritual, too. Of voting, I mean, not snoozing in the company of Current Archaeology...
