Alexander Petrosyan

Alexander Petrosyan is a Russian photojournalist working out of St. Petersburg. I've been following him at [livejournal.com profile] petrosphotos for years.  His latest post shows police breaking up (what I assume is) an anti-Putin demonstration. He gets right into the middle of the action- and still manages to produce wonderfully composed, perfectly judged images.  I really don't know how he does it.

They're terrific photos. Why does the USSR, even at its most destructive and corrupt still look such an appealing place? (at a distance - you wouldn't want to live there...)

A great photographer can make anywhere look appealing- at least, if that's what he wants to do.
