The Girl Who Waited

I didn't like last week's episode much.  It was too hurried- and it had one of those "in one bound they were free" endings that leave you wondering what all the fuss was about. The Girl Who Waited was much better.  For the first time ever I felt emotionally invested in Rory and Amy (Karen Gillan's performance as hard-assed, middle-aged Amy was terrific) and I liked it that we got a glimpse of the Doctor's inner bastard.

I think it comes from the old radio serials. You'd have the characters backed into a tight spot at the end of one episode only to have them get out of it in "one bound" at the beginning of the next. There's too much of that sort of thing in Doctor Who.

Yeah, I liked that one. Missed the beginning, but felt sufficiently interested to track it down On Demand and wound up watching it all over again. Yeah, we don't see enough of the Doctor's Inner Bastard - Sylvester McCoy revealed it from time to time, which was interesting. I think it makes him seem more alien...

Both more alien and more human. I don't want a Doctor who never puts a foot wrong.
