One of the seven daughters from four doors down was getting married yesterday. They had two stretch limos, plus the snazzy little roadster in which the bride travelled.

Ailz tells me the average cost of a British wedding is £25,000.

I wouldn't have though the average was as high as that, but the cost soon mounts up if you have a big family and lots of friends. At least some of this is due to the extortionate prices that venues, caterers, printers etc charge the moment the word "wedding" is mentioned. Fortunately for parents, these days it's usual for the couple to pay for most of the wedding.

It blows me away that people would pay so much money to have a ceremony- one that can tip the couple into bankruptcy and divorce before it's paid off.

No, thanks. I'd take that sort of money and invest it in property and financial instruments.

I agree. I've been married twice- and both ceremonies were do-it-yourself affairs.
