Let The Right One In

In a harsh sub-arctic world, surrounded by adults who are most of them, variously, defeated in love, Eli and Oscar make the perfect connection. They become mates- brilliant mates- but adolescence lies just ahead and Oscar will go over the edge and Eli never will. In a matter of months he will have to choose between immortality- barred from the sunlight, always on the run- or the ageing process that will turn him into a duplicate of Hakan- the creepy, middle-aged retainer he has replaced, living on memories and killing to service his mistress in return for the occasional, bored caress. Eli and Oscar are damned.  Eli knows (how could she not?) Oscar doesn't- not yet- but he will.

Oh yeah. I liked it a lot.

Amazing that there is such depth to the vampire mythos. You'd think that it should have exhausted its capacity to entertain us, by now.

I tell myself I'm sick to death of vampires, but I'm not really.

I loved that film so much; it did every single thing right. I have avoided the American remake like the uninteresting kind of plague.

Yes, I loved it too.

Ah, so that's what happened! I watched a bit of this film and was fascinated, but didn't catch up with a second showing a few days later. Must get the DVD and watch it all the way through.

The film actually has a "happy" ending- but you know the happiness can only be transient.
