And I love that the Gatehouse appears to be the least fortified part of the castle.

You have reminded me that I want to revisit Stokesay. I called in there a few years ago en route from SE to NE Wales, but didn't have time to do the castle and just looked in the church.

I love that place. Last time I was there, the vicar asked if I wouldn't mind reading the responses at Evensong, as no one else was there. He didn't object to a heathen clerk, so I obliged. Lovely words, lovely setting.

In the happenstance way of these things, I just came across the fact that Stokesay was the setting used by Kevin Crossley-Holland as inspiration for his excellent Arthur trilogy. Now I must certainly visit!
