Last night, as I was drifting off to sleep, a voice spoke in my right ear. It seemed to be a male voice and it spoke very clearly, though I knew it to be incorporeal. What it said was, "You have seen everything."
Often I'll be drifting off to sleep and very clearly will hear a voice calling my name. I usually chalk it up to some synapse firing off a burst as my consciousness shuts down, but if I was more superstitious I'd wonder who was trying to contact me and why.
I've had a lot of experiences in the hypnogogic and hypnopompic states...usually voices in the former (sometimes very direct like yours, sometimes just fields of "chatter"), and visions of people or "things" in the latter, often with sleep paralysis, very distinct tactile sensations, full audio. In one of my favorite, as I was coming out of sleep, there was a little girl standing beside my bed, who looked at me and said "YOUR Grandfather!!!!" in the most exasperated tone. I though, "Good lord, what has he done now?" :)
They've run the gamut from meaningless to menacing to sublime. I haven't discovered too many really solid links between the frequency or content and anything I'm doing, apart from the fact that the overall occurrence is more frequent when involved in more intense periods of spiritual training or crisis. I note them when they occur, but they haven't yielded as much beneficial material as regular dreamwork. So I just count them as part of what makes my night world so lively. :)
I was once shown- again in a hypnagogic state- a series of 19th century photographic portraits- not the approximations one might expect in a dream but all clearly of "real" people. I have no idea who they were.
It's strange and wonderful territory - like you say, much more "real" than dreams. I have no idea what to make of it much of the time, but it is quite fascinating.
Since I come from a worldview that doesn't attribute everything to the subconscious (even dreams aren't that simplistic in my understanding), I don't try to enforce any beliefs on it. Especially in my hypnopompic experiences - they've been distinct personalities doing very intentional things, which I don't always understand. But as in a typical day, they range from random encounters to doing "business" or even seeing friends.
How cryptic is that? Not much point in going on now, is there, if you've seen everything. Or perhaps it meant that you've seen everything because a) the Lib Dems are in co-ilition with the Tories, and b) the Egyptians are revolting, and c) the bankers are being, well, the bankers...
You are obviously ahead of me. I am still waiting on an honest, intelligent and electable politician, a domestic sparkling wine that drinks like champagne, an invisible pink unicorn, and a few other things I've yet to see.
I once awoke in my bed to find a note pinned to my pillow with a flame-shaped dagger. The note, my pillow, my bed and room, all of it was crystal clear and to all my senses exactly as it appeared to be. After reading the note, I awoke again, everything precisely the same as before, except of course for the dagger and note.

Tony you had better become a guru now to help us achieve our enlightenment. I reckon the voice may be right.
