Health Update

I went for a follow-up meeting with the practice nurse. My bloods are fine, my blood pressure is fine too.  I asked about statins- and she told me the statins I'm taking are different from the over-the-counter statins the experts were rubbishing on the TV news- so we agreed I'd keep on taking them.

Good news for you, I had the all clear 24 hrs ago. As for Doctors, the most eye opening job I ever had was "Pretend patient" a half was house between acting and medical student. I had 200 of them to get through, some even failed basic stuff like "crushing pain in chest and under jaw" (!)I discovered Docs are like mechanics or painters or barbers. Good and bad ones. major fuck up at my local surgery where 2 of the 6 are wankers.

And, when it comes to prescribing medicines they're pretty much at the mercy of the pharmaceutical companies and their reps.

They don't have to be; they choose to be. Not all of them (here, at least) are.

Yes, that was an unfair generalization....

Glad to hear of your good news.

My farther reacted badly when they put him on statins. There were sever muscle aches, fatigue; he was generally miserable and was well aware of the fact. They changed varieties and he's fine now. If his experience was typical, I think you would know whether there was cause for concern.

These statins are supposed to be protecting me against high blood pressure. British doctors prescribe them for anyone over a certain age who has raised cholestrol levels.

Yes, sounds like what they have my father on, now.
