More Twitching

I should have done Birdwatch this morning. In addition to all the birds I saw over the weekend we've had a blue tit and a couple of starlings. The starlings are messy eaters. They stab at the food with their rapier beaks and the crumbs fly everywhere.  It makes me think of a glove puppet mumbling a dry biscuit.  The male blackbird hops around the base of the table, picking up the debris.

I had a dream about the Birdwatch after reading the Telegraph's guide to the 50 most common garden birds in bed. In my dream I saw a Greater Spotted Woodpecker and two peacocks.

I'd love to see a greater spotted woodpecker. I don't believe I ever have. They're even rarer- or shyer- than peacocks.

I think we have them on our bird feeder occasionally - with the red feathers on the underside of the tail - will check with appropriate website.

And I thought our blackbirds were messy!
They are huge here, almost the size of ravens.

The blackbirds are messy too, but the starlings are worse.
