First Thing Thursday

poliphiloHarry the joiner comes in the door with a sigh and mounts the stairs with an even deeper sigh. He's only recently out of hospital and shouldn't really be working. I don't know how old he is- early sixties, I suppose- but he seems much older.
When this work started it was still Autumn- and I've only just woken up to it being nearly Christmas. We have the family Xmas party this weekend and we haven't bought anyone any presents- or so Ailz says. I guess we'll take an armful of wine bottles and hand them out at random.
It was mild first thing, but we're expecting a weather front from the Arctic to hit us this afternoon. The wind is beginning to growl in the chimney.
