Week Eight, Day Three

It was very noisy today. Khalid came and explained why the smoke alarms were beeping in tandem, but it was all technobabble to me.

Nevertheless, we now have a fully wired kitchen- and I intend- shortly- to go and fry bacon on the new hob. We also have a new loft ladder. Harry and Dougie had a devil of a job installing it- and have made a terrible mess of the ceiling.

Sounding much closer to finished!

Sorry about the noise...

I thought it might get quieter towards the end. I was wrong.

In the end, I think the noise was the worst of having a new roof put on. The incessant pounding above was maddening and the quiet that descended when the workmen had gone was eerie and brought no real comfort.

I can just imagine how delightful bacon must have been, cooked in your own kitchen once more.

The noise is probably the worst thing, The second worst is continually having to step over and past people and tools and building materials.

Mind you, I'm beginning to forget the long ago era when the kitchen was entirely without electricity, all its windows were boarded up and there was a mini-niagra flowing down from the ceiling. That was grimmer than anything we're dealing with now.
