Week Seven, Day Four

The joiner made two attempts at the sink unit, got it wrong both times, then called in sick. His replacement reckons the kitchen is a three day job; by the time it's finished it will have consumed at least a week.

If Peter and Ailz weren't standing behind me I'd sign off on the mistakes. I'm past caring. I just want my house back.

Someone just threw paint at Charles and Camilla- that's cheered me up.

Yay! - I mean, I am sorry to hear about the gesture of disrespect to the heir apparent of your Crown.

(yay! Rule the real Britannia!)

A little disrespect will do him good.

Rule Britannia

I have a sneaky love of that song, I must admit. It's such a great unapologetic mother of a piece :)

I've never been that fond of it. I find it overblown and silly. My national anthem of choice is Jerusalem- another motherfucker of a tune, plus good, solid, lefty sentiments from my man Blake.

Always remember that nothing is impossible for the man that does not have to do the work himself. It's how they built the pyramids of Egypt and it will work just as well in your kitchen. Having been on both sides of such endeavors, all I can say is, stand firm. Insist on seeing it done and done right, politely but firmly, else you may regret it for the rest of your days in that house.

Mohammed gave the job of building the kitchen to a man who wasn't up to it. He struggled for two days and then took a strategic sickie. Believe me, I've a lot of sympathy with him. I've not lost my temper with anyone yet.

I'm just tired of living on a building site.

That you have yet to lose your temper with anyone is impressive. On a large job, there would have been at least one half-hearted attempt at homicide, by this point. I have seen it happen.

I believe one achieves more with patience and understanding. Not least one achieves the good will of the people who are doing the work.

You are undoubtedly right, it's just so seldom realized in practice.
