Snow- At Last

The light coming through our inadequately shaded windows last night was a brighter orange than usual. When I got up I found it was being reflected off snow.  At a rough estimate I'd say we've had five inches. Most of the rest of the country has- of course- been snowbound for days.

As someone I was listening to yesterday said, "it may not be global warming, but it's certainly climate change."

The snow sounds delightful, but wish you had a more cozy vantage point from which to enjoy it. It's pouring rain in the darkness outside, as I type this. We only had our first freeze of the season late Sunday night, perhaps as much as a month later than normal. Very strange weather, we're having.

Our cold spell has come a month early. It's most unusual for us to have significant snowfalls ahead of Christmas.

We seldom have snow this early. There have been significant snowfalls before Christmas, around here, but they are somewhat rare. I remember going to West Virginia, to cut a Christmas tree, and having to drag a ten footer through drifts above my knees, with temperatures around 20 or so. Great for holiday atmosphere, but more charming in retrospect than it was at the time.

There's no sign of this weather lightening up. It's snowing as I write. The weather girl has promised us winds from Russia.

Brrrr. Do stay warm.

Well, as it is the earliest snow for 17 years, then I suppose it is "climate change back to what it used to be". I'm not spooked yet. Although I don't remember this in 1993 - but I was living on the south coast then and perhaps there wasn't any right next to the sea.

It's not just early snow, but very heavy snow. I forget what it was like in '93 but I doubt if it was anything like this.
