We're a little incapacitated right now. Ailz hurt her knee and the stair lift has broken down- with the consequence that she'll be spending most of the next few days upstairs. She's certainly not fit to drive. This hasn't prevented her mother from coming on first thing and trying to wheedle her into running errands for her- and going on and on and on about it in "poor me" mode.

We have told her parents- repeatedly- that they're not to regard Ailz as their chauffeur-cum-personal assistant, but they don't seem to have heard.

Her father may be going home today. When he does he'll be taking oxygen with him- for his "panic attacks".

It's a frosty morning. We have a plasterer in, plus Khalid and his son- and now I'm going to walk to the shops.

Well, maybe this is the wake up call the parents need. Give Ailz my best, but tell her to stay in bed a little bit longer than she needs to, just in case they don't get the message.

This exactly.

Yes! That's exactly how we're playing it.

I want to ask her parents, "What part of Ailz being disabled do you not understand?"

Besides, they need to face up to the extent of their dependency. They can't expect Ailz to paper over the cracks any longer. If they can't manage on their own they're going to have to appeal to social services.

Thanks.

I appreciate the moral support.

They expect to be rewarded for being such fucking useless parents.

They're going to have to realize that help is not always at the ready, especially with Ailz' disability and now being injured. They also need to lose some pride and get some outside help while it's still available.

My thoughts exactly. They need to be getting onto social services.

I've been limping around on a bum knee for a few days, so I can empathize with Ailz. I hope her knee heals quickly.

The part where it means they have to be CONSIDERATE and stop being so bloody SELF-ABSORBED and ENTITLED.

Yes. All the time I've known them they've never taken the least bit of interest in our lives, whilst thinking we'll be happy to sit for hours and be regaled with stories we've heard before about meals they ate on the Costa del Sol thirty years ago.

I'm sorry about your knee.

Ailz caught hers on the edge of her desk. Both her knees are pretty ropey to begin with.

Fellow bum knee sufferer sympathy to Ailz. Her parents need to go eat worms, for heaven's sake.

Thanks. Ailz had a kneecap removed before I met her. The other- the one she smacked- is in a bad way. the rotten knees are a legacy of childhood TB.

So sorry to hear of Ailz's knee. May her recovery be speedy and complete.

What delightful parents, she has.
