Grinning And Bearing

We end the day with power everywhere except in the kitchen. The joiners have put in the framework for the false kitchen ceiling, but the leaking pipe has stopped them from putting the boards up. They've also begun work on the false ceiling in the bathroom. The leak gets worse and I'll be turning the water off at the main when I go to bed this evening. Peter rang Mohammed and had him promise that a plumber would be in attendance tomorrow morning.

There have been times today when- if I hadn't been holding myself severely in check - I might have become a little peevish. The joiner- a soft-spoken older man who wants to sell me a flat screen monitor for the computer (one careful owner, very cheap)- says he doesn't know how I'm coping with all the shit.

Our renovations lasted 6 long months and your post just brought back all the really desperate feelings we went through during that time. Though we're happy we had all of it done and enjoy the new spaces, the process was invasive, aggravating and just plain maddening!

Our work is scheduled to take 6 weeks- and it's looking as if they'll make the target. It's very intense, though.

Guess you're eating salad tonight then!

Hope it sorts itself out soon!

Oh dear, no. I don't believe I could face a salad.

I've got a little portable oven in the living room, which means we can manage simple hot meals.

Good thinking!

I agree with the joiner: I don't know how you are managing to cope, either. I might manage, but not with such grace and forbearance.

It's simple really. If you lose your cool the person you lose it with loses his and there's a chain reaction and everyone on site ends up simmering.
