The Electricians: Day 9

I don't know exactly what's been achieved today, but the lights downstairs are still off. There's a leaking pipe in the kitchen that's steadily getting worse- probably because Khalid has been poking at it. This evening the kitchen is not only cold and dark, but also muddy underfoot.

Mohammed says he's going to start work on the windows next week.

Poor you- it sounds very uncomfortable and bleak in your house at the moment. I hope it soon starts to improve.

Thanks. I'm sure it'll all be worth it in the end.:)

I've been reading these vignettes for a while now but I think I missed the post that explained why this is going on.

We struck a deal with the council. They'll fund repairs in return for a slice of the value of the house. We're having all our windows replaced- because the frames are falling apart- and a complete rewire and a new kitchen and a couple of ceilings repaired. This is the first major overhaul in 25 years- and we're hoping it'll see us out.

That sounds like a good deal. Why'd they go for it?

It was an existing scheme and we took advantage of it. I suppose it's an inexpensive way for the the Council to improve the borough's housing stock.

Oh, yuk! This nightmare just seems to be going from bad to worse.

It has rather felt that way.
