It's Been A Long Time

I wrote a letter this morning- not a business letter, not an email, not a note inside a Christmas card, but a real letter on paper (in this case a notelet) beginning "Dear X",  ending "Love, Tony and Ailz,  and with a certain amount of guarded personal information in the middle. How many years is it since I last did that?

I can't even remember the last time I wrote a proper letter on paper.

There must be many younger people who've never ever written one.

About a week ago I wrote two at a sitting: one to a long-lost uncle, essentially reintroducing myself; the other to an aunt, on the occasion of her son unexpectedly dropping dead. By my standards, though, that was a virtual epistolary orgy: I don't know when I last did such a thing. Otherwise, it's just the occasional bread-and-butter letter to the ancient and netless.

My correspondent on this occasion is netless- at least I think she is. I certainly don't have an email address for her. The telephone would have been an option, but I hate the telephone.
