1. We went to the inlaws yesterday afternoon. I'll admit to a twinge of resentment that we were celebrating Eric's fatherhood not mine. but that's my own silly fault for teaching the kids that Father's Day is utterly bogus- which it is. Alice rang while we were out. And Odi- who sees us as her adoptive parents- rang in the morning.

2. I thought the World Cup would be ghastly, but I hadn't anticipated the French team going on strike or John Terry attempting a coup d'etat against Fabio Capello. Actually, all this is so ghastly it's fascinating- which is more than can be said for anything that's been happening on the pitch. I asked Ruth (who knows about football) why our lot have been playing so badly- and she said it was because they're a bunch of spoiled brats who can't work as a team. I wonder when the penny is finally going to drop with the relentlessly exploited, relentlessly betrayed fans that they're being sold a crock of shit.

3. I see they had a lovely morning for it at Stonehenge. These pictures on the Guardian site are really rather special.

I just realized that Fathers Day fell on the Solstice this year. Imagine that...

Interesting that the Guradian's reporter calls the Mollys "people in costume" in photo 5.

I so enjoyed the link with the wonderful photos. Thank you. And Happy Father's Day, albeit belatedly.

It's nice to be remembered even though the day may be bogus in its essence.
Fascinating set of photos!

The World Cup is dire this time around. Spain is just as bad (or worse, really) than England.

Players who play brilliantly for their clubs seem to lose heart when they're playing for their country.

If I were a fan- and I'm not (thank goodness)- I'd be angry.
