It's a beautiful day- and for the first time in my lifetime of nearly sixty years there are no vapour trails in the skies over England.

We had that on September 11, 2001. Sadly, the marvel of it wasn't uppermost on our minds.

Amazingly blue! And you've just given me an idea for my photo of the day. :)

Wow. Hadn't thought of that. I wonder what the weather effects will be? You might get slightly warmer weather than you otherwise would have done...

There's the possibility that this volcano could set off a bigger, neighbouring volcano and the eruption could carry on for over a year- because this is what has happened in the past. If that happens we could be witnessing the beginning of a world-changing event here.

Strangely enough, it looks uncannily like your photo. :)

Uh, oh! That doesn't sound good. Perhaps we'll all be able to stop worrying about global warming and start panicking about another ice age instead. :(

My husband, who is a geologist, has noticed that the earth is very seismically active at the moment. We've had a string of earthquakes and now this eruption. It's possible that they're all related as the stresses shift over the earth's crust.

We're always panicking about something. I think we're programmed for it.

Being the next thing to Mary Mary q c, I looked for some time at what I thought were vapour trails before i realized that it must be cloud trails drifting off the mountains

Isn't it odd? For me, living quite close to San Francisco Airport, I was in awe the day the planes stopped flying (9/11). Such clear skies, so quiet, no con trails...truly eerie.

Marvelous to see a sky free of our upper air passages.

I keep thinking, this is the sky as Chaucer saw it.

This shut down of the airports has coincided with a period of absolutely glorious spring weather.

I don't want the aeroplanes to return. I want it to be like this forever and ever.

Which is hugely selfish of me- as I have friends and family who need to get places and can't.
