Was it so very different from what RTD has been doing? No.

Some funny bits, some touching bits, some mid-level monsters and some brilliant lines. We're in safe hands.

They're going on about how much bigger the new Tardis is, but there's not much architecture to it- and so the space very largely goes to waste.  What you notice is the clutter. Mind you, the clutter is fun.

Matt Smith is terrific.

Amy has a dopey boyfriend just like Rose. Do we really have to go through all that again?

Loved the montages of past doctors and past foes.

Moffat seemed to be deliberately referencing his greatest hits- Matt got to say "timey-wimey", the doctor missed his appointments with Amy just as he did with Madame de Pompadour- and the hospital ward harked back to the one in The Empty Child.

Who exactly are Mrs Angelo and the good looking lad with porn on his computer- and what is their relation to Amy? Will we be seeing them again?

Not a great episode in itself, but one that did everything it needed to do to launch the new season.

Well, it didn't make me want to scream with the bad writing like RTD, or shit all over women constantly.

I will say, Rory didn't seem dopy. He had a job, at least, which is becoming kind of rare in genre. I just want people to have jobs and ambitions.

Yes. There was nothing in it that made me go, "Oh, no!"

Ailz thinks Rory is sweet. I just hope we're not in for a retread of the Doctor-Rose-Mickey triangle.

I hope so too, I really do. I have a little trust, but the wedding dress makes me groan.

But I liked Rory. He is the one that discovered the problem with the patients, and pursued it even when he was suspended, he could tell what was wrong with the guy with the dog, he recognized the doctor immediately, and he has a job. That's more agency than Mickey ever showed in S1--it's sad that the white guy has all this and the black guy didn't, unfortunately.

Oh dear yes, the wedding dress! At least she doesn't have a bevy of loving relatives holding her back.

No black people yet in Moffat's world- but I suppose they'll come- in fact I know they will. Sophie Okenedo is guesting next week.

My problem is that Matt Smith looks like Frankenstein's monster. Square head, dodgy haircut. A poor imitation of Mt Tennant.

And the redhead with the wedding dress? Yawn.

I think his appearance is to his advantage. After two conventionally handsome doctors we've got one who- while not ugly- looks a little strange- alien, even.

I'm reserving my judgement on the companion. And maybe the wesdding dress doesn't mean what we think it means. Maybe Moffat is just messing with our heads.

No black people, but Nina Wadia as the (other) Doctor.

And presumably we'll be seeing more of her.

Why on earth couldn't they just invite the boyfriend along?
