An Essential Difference Between The Sexes
Jan. 3rd, 2010 12:58 pmThe matriarchs have consulted together and the big family Christmas do- which we were supposed to be hosting- has been called off- because of snow- which means we have rather a lot of potato hash to eat.
Oh- and (cheerful thought) rather a lot of wine to drink.
Here's a major difference between men and women. Women love these affairs- with finger food being passed around and the generations tolerating one another and grandma sat in the corner receiving homage- and men detest them. At least, that's the case in our family. How about yours?

My in-laws, the men not so much.
Maybe a cultural thing? My family being Cuban by way of Spain, his being mostly Dutch and British.

When the in laws do (Latino), good GOD - you may as well pack a suitcase. You're going to be there awhile.

Date: 2010-01-03 04:43 pm (UTC)It was a huge relief this Christmas to be more than 2000 miles away from both families. We had a quiet time to ourselves and didn't have anybody chivvying us to come to the family "do".

Date: 2010-01-03 07:57 pm (UTC)I did enjoy family reunions though, mainly because there were cousins and other relatives I hadnt seen in years, and also because most of the activity was out of doors, usually on a bright and beautiful not too hot early summer day.
Lately I stay home for major holidays and invite three or four good friends in for dinner. Works for me...
