The War Against Entropy

It's been raining these past few days- sometimes heavily- but the gutters haven't overflowed and the water hasn't cascaded down the wall and  the kitchen hasn't flooded- all thanks to Carl. It's nice to win a skirmish in the war against entropy.

And then there's the step lift. It stopped working in March- when an engineer walked off with the circuit board, promising to be in touch. Ailz has been ringing the council regularly. Recently, as a last resort, she enlisted the help of a Lib Dem councillor and his wife who wants to be a Lib Dem councillor. They rootled and it turns out the Council paid  £2,000 for the job- after the lift company assured them the work had been completed. Since then there has been action. The engineer came yesterday with a new circuit board- which turned out to be faulty. I was going to end on a cynical note, but since I started this post the engineer has come again- with a third circuit board- and is down in the cellar now, hard at work...

It's just as well you complained! If they don't drop them entirely, I hope the council keep a very close eye on that company in future.

They've already dropped them- but not because of our lift.

The weather here has been nice for the last couple days, though it was rainy before that. I'm hoping the farmers get the rest of the crops harvested quickly; they're behind this year.

The clocks went back a week ago- and ever since then it's felt like winter.

No sign of winter...or even Autumn...here. One day of rain in two months does not an Autumn make. It's tragic. The world's climate is rather unfairly distributed.

I'm glad you've had no flooding!

I hope that step lift is finally put into working order for you.

I'd gladly send you some of our rain if it were in my power.

Touch wood- but the lift seems to be mended.

Yay Carl!

Good luck on the lift. I hope that company gets their comeuppance.

I believe the Company's reporesentatives have been called into a meeting with the Council- but since they've already lost the Council's contract (not because of our lift) there's probably not much more comeuppance they can get.

Pity. Over here they could face all kinds of sanctions: being banned from even bidding on future council contracts, having their bills for contract work audited to look for other false or deceptive billing, being barred from working in the state/county, even legal charges for fraud.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect these sort of sanctions exist here as well, but for them to take effect the Council would have to put a fair bit of energy into prosecuting the case. I doubt if the will is there.

Yes, I rather gathered that they can't be arsed to care. :-p

By the time I read this, your engineer will have come and gone. Here's hoping it's all fixed now - at last!
How about that company, asking payment for a job not finished -- and lying that it was!

Yes, he's been and gone- and last time I checked it was working!
