We bought the electric hedge-trimmer specifically so we could trim my father-in-law's hedge. (Fair-dos, he lent us one that died in our custody). But that was weeks- even months- ago. Ever since then it's been raining- and I didn't fancy taking an electric machine to sodden vegetation in case something shorted out or I got electocuted. Finally, yesterday, we had a free afternoon and a dry afternoon all at once- and we went over and did it.

When I say "we" I mean Odi and Peter mainly.

(Ailz looked after Fabrizio)

The hedge- which I'd been picturing as wild privet, turned out to be an overgrown ivy tod behind the garage. There was room in there- in the corridor between garage and fence-  for only one person, so I handed Peter- as alpha male- the trimmer and let him get stuck in. I raked up the detritus and Odi put it in bags. Afterwards Eric and Dot served up refreshments, Odi ate her own weight in chocolate biscuits and Fabrizio got to meet the dog. He's never met a dog before.

Fabrizio is eight months old and can walk round the room unaided as long as there's furniture to hang onto.

I've been riding an energy wave since we came back off holiday and last night I dropped off it.  Bother.  By evening all I was fit for was an episode of The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes (Thor Bridge- with Daniel Massey going head to head with Jeremy Brett in a contest of eye-flashing theatricality) followed by an early night.
