The Next Generation Has Landed

It's five months since I started worrying away at Christianity and priesthood and all that jive. Since then I've only missed church once- and that was because we were ill or on holiday or- wait a minute- I remember- it was because there was snow on the ground. Today I missed it again. And I expect to go on missing it regularly from here on out. Ailz may keep going- and sometimes I'll walk her to the door and pick her up afterwards- but that'll be it.  I'm not sure why I went through this episode- perhaps it was to make sure I wasn't missing anything- like a vocation for instance- but it seems the moral is, "you can't go back".

Ourdert and Peter came round after the service. They're good friends and will stay that way. For the rest I trimmed some bushes and watched the conclusion of The Wire: Season #3.

And then in the evening my sis rang to tell me that Michelle had just had her baby - which makes her a granny and me a great uncle.

Thanks.

Was there something specific that happened, or was it simply a question of "I remember all this, and it's why I left in the first place" sort of thing?

And congrats to the family.

It's pretty much a case of remembering why I left in the first place.

Thanks.

Wonderful on the baby.

On the church -- I guess you don't have any settings on your dial between all-in and all-out? No "I can go and sing and smile and enjoy being with people" setting?

It seems as if I just can't do the middle way. I turn up at church and start acting like I'm the vicar.

There's also the tiny problem that I hate hymns and find most liturgy tiresome.

Oh. Well, if you hate hymns you're doomed. No point going. When I attend, I pick my church based on the number of opportunities to sing lustily.

So do I!

It's always best to stay away from what irritates.

Congratulations on the new family member! Is this your first great niece/nephew?
I have two and and when I think about it, it seems impossible.

Thanks.

Yes, this is the first child of the new generation on either side of the family.

Congratulations to you, Uncle Tony, and to your sister and her daughter, etc. Is this your first "great"?
I have not been to a worship service in four weeks, and prior to last month I had skipped several services over the three or four months preceding.
Question: when is church not church?

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, this is the first great- on either side of the family.

Church is always church I'm afraid. one of the things I hate about it is having to do the same things week after week after week.

Hi i'm sat in hospital next to a sleeping michelle and baby matthew. Both are doing well and might get to go home today. Thanks for the congratulations :-). Btw his middle name is John after your father. Tom F

Matthew!!!

Ailz and i were trying to guess the name you'd choose. We got it wrong. We favoured James :)

His middle name makes me happy.

Congratulations to you both. We look forward to meeting him soon.
