It Could Have Happened To Anyone

We have this scanner thing we scan our shopping with. In fact we have two- issued by different companies- but the one we're considering here is the one that sits in the hall- on a stand that's plugged into the mains- next to the telephone. It broke. And the issuing company issued us with a new one- only requesting that we package up the old one and give it to their delivery man. Well, we left the packaging to the very last minute- as you do. The van was parked up across the road, the delivery man was ambling towards the door, so I grabbed up what I thought was the right gear and tumbled it into an envelope and handed it over.

Only  what I'd grabbed up was the scanner- right enough- but also the stand belonging to the phone- without which the phone won't work.

I discovered the mistake within minutes. Ailz tried to fit the phone into its stand- which, of course, was the scanner stand- and it wouldn't go. I ran out to stop the delivery man, but he'd left.

We had to go shopping that afternoon anyway- and the replacement phone only added £25 to the bill.

What are these scanners you refer to? I did a quick Google search and couldn't see anything like it.

We're with two outfits- A.C. Nielson and Shop 'n' Scan. We scan in our bar-codes, transmit the information to H.Q. and they pay us in credits and vouchers.
