I got so carried away putting all the clocks forward yesterday evening that I advanced one of them two hours. Fortunately it wasn't the bedroom alarm clock.

I don't know why we keep on with British Summer Time.  Well, actually, I do.  It's because we're lazy.  It's an inconvenience to have to mess with the clocks twice a year but not not such a huge incovenience as it would be (to our legislators) to change things round.  It's like (another topic in the news) the law that says a royal princess can only inherit the crown if there aren't any royal princes about. We're all pretty much agreed that this is foolish and out of date- and it's fun to chat, chat, chat about it- but when it comes to actually making the change- with all the consultation and law-making involved-  we simply can't be arsed.

At least this morning was a lovely bright morning- and it didn't feel like too much of an imposition to get up early to get ready for church. The guy who was my successor at St Anne's was the visiting priest. I still don't think he knows who I am- and, frankly, I don't care. When I first started going it was all about me- and my precious faith or lack of it- but it isn't any more- thank goodness.

Inertia is a powerful force both in physics and politics.

oh no, I love BST! Driving home from work and it is still light - it lifts the mood wonderfully.

I'm reminded of the Circumlocution Office in Little Dorrit- with its tireless and patriotic devotion to the principle of "how not to do it".

I hate anything that interferes with my sleep patterns.

I don't like the changeover, but I seem to be in a minority when I say I'd prefer GMT all year round. The real problem is that we are all slaves to the clock, rather than varying our hours gradually to suit the daylight as it changes through the year.

Personally I like Daylight time. Since I am not much of a morning person, I prefer the extra hour of daylight at the end of the day. Again, it may have a lot to do with latitude. Way up north, the days are automatically longer after the equinox in the spring, but down here in good old Boston they are not.
I stopped going to church recently, taking a breather from the long sermon and the ritual. Ironic, isn't it -- you start attending and I stop. However, it's not about faith -- in that I am secure.

I've never understood why, instead of messing with the clocks, we don't just get up earlier and leave work earlier- or later as the case my be. It would be much more natural to live by the sun.

Our sermons are quite short- and anyway- now that we've become honorary grandparents- we have a baby to entertain us during the tedious bits.

How do you describe what it is all about now?

That's easy- it's about the people....

Or to put it another way, we've made friends....

sorry to hassle you but I was just wondering when you last saw my entries on your FL. I've had no comments since March 11th and I'm not altogether convinced that it's just because my blog is stultifyingly boring... I changed the format of my blog and haven't had a comment since...
