Spring Cleaning
I'm spring cleaning. Slowly. A little at a time. Yesterday our friend Ourdert came and helped. But first because it was one of those days- the first this year- we all went for a stroll in the park, sat by the lake- and Ailz and Ourdert ate ice cream.
Today we're clearing out our wardrobe. We've got three bags to take to Oxfam.
Also- a bit of mental spring cleaning- we've been reviewing our charitable giving- cancelling a number of standing orders and diverting the money to a fund to be used- when the call comes- for emergency relief.

Sometimes I look around and wish all my stuff would just disappear and I could begin again, maybe in a new white room with nothing in it but a bowl of fresh flowers and a single chair. Clutter drives me crazy--old books I never read and never will again, the odd dishes piled up in the backs of cabinets. But if I get rid of something, I always want it later.
Still, if my house burned down today I would be fine. I don't need anything I own.

The reality of my life is entirely different.

I still like the idea.
If my money runs out--a possibility with the economy these days--I will have to move into a tiny place, probably, and then I will get rid of everything and live an ascetic life--two place settings of china (one for company) and Raman noodles in the cupboard.
