Do you paint the figures yourself? That's quite a collection.
The last one is an excellent set-up!

Yes, I painted the figures myself. I've got well over a hundred.

Oh MY what a crew!
I saw your comment that you paint them yourself and have over 100! Will you photograph them all for us?

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I suppose I could....

They normally inhabit a table-top village with a big castle and haunted chapel. I've posted pictures- in the very distant past- but this new camera makes close-up photography a possibility- so why not?

It sounds like quite a big project, though....

[identity profile] mummm.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It will be... but worth it? (Definitely for me!)

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll do it- but not straight away. I've spent 3 days taking these pictures (I get obsessive and perfectionist) and I need a rest....:)

Cool! Take your time! :^)))

I didn't make them (I only wish I was that skilled). They're wargaming figures- mainly from the 80s- which I bought on eBay.

What I did make- out of cardboard and polystyrene- are the buildings they inhabit.

The naked archer is one scary dude!

I think they would enjoy exploring some of the places you visit.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Fierce, eh?

I have thought of putting some in my pocket and photographing them at historic sites, but I've never carried through.

Ohhh but that would be wonderful!

Delightful!

Thanks.

Love the last shot- are they underneath the gate in the backyard?

5 brave adventurers, face the unknown, ready to do battle. Not sure how handy her flashlight will be though in combat...

What camera are you using now?

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right, they're leaving the back yard- venturing out into the wider world....

The new camera is a Kodak EasyShare C613.

Was thinking the other day how I'd like to make models- castles and cities and dungeons and whatnot. Unfortunately, even if I had the time, I don't have the space. One day though...

Why not tell stories using the figures and settings as backdrop- a bit like that Brick Testament guy. Would be cool.

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
When I was a kid we used to visit this model village at Eastbourne (or somewhere). I thought it was just the most amazing thing.

I've thought of writing stories. This post is- if you like- a story without words.

She looks tough. She has to be, what with devils and onions and all those strangers.

She looks tougher than the devil, who looks a little bewildered.

These figures come as blanks. You paint their little faces- which is a bit random and chancey because they're so small- and suddenly they have personality.

Don't you love the devil's hair and moustache? I reckon he's a 1980s porn devil.
