The Man Who Would Be King

We talk about it as though the important things were Iraq and the economy and things like that, but really it's about Kingship

It's tribal/feudal/religious.

Is he acceptable to God?
Is he beautiful enough?
Are the omens right?

Because if we anoint the wrong man, judgement and chaos will ensue.

You're 100% right, the conventions only prove that with their creeping similarity to high mass.

And BTW, do you use any instant messaging?

Instant messaging? Um no. I'm afraid I've never figured out how it works.

Ah, 'kay. Was wondering. You seemed interesting and are up at some of the odd times I am. Though I suspect they may be normal times in your time zone.

There's a six, seven hour difference I think. It's 11.51 in the morning here in England....

Yeah, it's abouth 4:51 here.

Or 5:51, I haven't used this computer since I was in CO and damned if it isn't still set back an hour.

Funny

I wrote this yesterday and your post reminded me of it:

Having a soul separates man from beast, but who is the better for it? We the people are murderers, rapists, hunters for sport, ambitious would-be kings who claw our way to the top riding a chariot made of the bones of our rivals. Animals are survivors, and sometimes victims.

This may not make the final cut of the story, but I will miss it if it goes.

Exactly. Having a soul doesn't make us human beings any pleasanter to be around- rather the reverse.

Here's a poem you may know. I forget who wrote it...

I wish I loved the human race,
I wish I loved its silly face,
And when I'm introduced to one
I wish I thought, "what jolly fun."

I propose we check his entrails just to be sure.

What a great idea!
