A Neighbourly Day In The Neighbourhood

The child next door was offered a choice of babysitters. She could have us- her left-hand neighbours- or a cool teenage girl- one of her right-hand neighbours- and she chose us! That's my idea of social success.  If the queen herself had offered me a knighthood I couldn't have been more proud.

Apparently we let her do whatever she wants.

This is getting to be a friendly neighbourhood. I go out front to cut the hedge and I get into conversation after conversation. Or maybe it's just me that's friendlier than I used to be.

The child chose well!
I am as pleased to hear that as you were :-)

I take it as a sign that we now belong to the grandparently generation-

There you go! Grandparents are more fun! That's what I used to tell my youngest, who would cry every time my mother in law picked him up (while he was an infant, not later).

I'm old enough to be a grandparent, but none of my kids have been forthcoming- yet.

That's sweet.
:)
She chose well, I think.

I'd like to think so.

But of course she chose you! You are COOL. :^)

Enjoy those friendly neighbors. That's the way to live life!

We live in a terrace- with all the houses joined up- so it's important we get on well together.

Oh absolutely!

That's pretty sweet. How long have you been in this new neighborhood?

[identity profile] lblanchard.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
A surprising number of kids think hanging out with old people is cool. Did you and Ailz go to her or did she go to you?

I've lived in this neighbourhood for over twenty years; it's the neighbours who change.

We went to hers- and she demonstrated her wii for us. I had a go, but just couldn't get the hang of the controls.

I love it when neighborhoods are real communities!!

[identity profile] poliphilo.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, indeed!

[identity profile] jackiejj.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That was a true compliment.

I'm glad your neighborhood is friendly!

Tony, please read my post--we have awful news in our own neighborhood.

Any child in their right mind would choose me over a teenager. I am much cooler than most teenagers, and kids know it.

Teenagers have only just graduated from childhood themselves and are likely to regard children as boring.

That's very sweet!
