Mike's Website

This is my son Mike's birthday.

Happy birthday, [profile] manfalling.

He writes "weird fiction" (his description) and blogs about life in Japan. His excellent new website (with links to published stories) is here. Check it out!

Yeah, I know I'm his dad and I'm prejudiced, but he really is good. If I thought he was crap, I'd just keep quiet about him. His best stories- Celibate Jayne the Hammerhand for instance- go places no-one else has gone before. And he loves language. The characters in his Jabbler Mons universe speak a dialect that melds King James Bible with Lancashire with Lewis Carroll- yeasty, preposterous, hi-falutin. He's funny but he can also hit the heights and make your spine tingle. Sure, I'm proud; he's an original.

This made me laugh out loud.

I only looked at a couple of pages on Mike's web site, both excellent. His apartment looks a lot like my own here in the USA - I have about 275 square feet of space, made up as a bed-sitter (convertile sofa) with kitchenette and pretty good sized bathroom. Oh, yes, and TWO enormous closets.
Your son seems to be very talented - and clever. Of course you are proud of him.
One day soon, when I have more time to spend I will read his entire web page and check out his stories.
Actually, his tone is a lot like yours.....wonder why?

For some reason he doesn't show us his bathroom. I'm not at all sure where it is. The kitchen looks tiny, but- him being a bachelor and all- I don't suppose he does much (or indeed any) serious cooking.

Thanks for saying such nice things. All my kids write a bit. My daughter even has a publishing contract.

Tell him happy birthday from me!

I just read that one; he is very good. It must be genetic.
