Oh Dear

This is a little embarrassing.

The engineer arrived, went into the kitchen, looked behind the microwave and turned the wall switch on.

At least he only had to travel from the other side of town. My brother-in-law- working as an IT troubleshooter- once crossed the North Sea to solve an identical problem.  If he finds out about this he won't half laugh and point.

Anyway, the central heating's up and running again and we're all lovely and warm.

Thanks-

In our defence I must say neither of us knew he'd put this new wall switch in place. I'm still not sure why he did it, because there's a highly visible on/off switch on the boiler itself.

A new switch? Well, it's not your fault if you weren't told about it.

I thought all the relevant switches were in plain view- but this one he'd very cunningly hidden.

He just needed an excuse to come back and visit... *hee*

It probably made him feel quite superior, which, if you don't mind feeling inferior, functions something like a good deed done.

I had this feeling recently when we rented a car and my friends couldn't release the hand-brake. They called to me something like- "Mike we need you!" which felt cool to start with. I rolled up, sat in the car, and like Arthur pulling the Sword from the Stone, released the handbrake in one fell swoop with zero effort.

Yes, I felt good after that.

Yes, it's nice to demonstrate an expertise that other people don't have.

The funny thing is, what expertise do I have with handbrakes? None, I've hardly ever driven a car.
