More wonderful pictures. I love the carved arch, all golden and eternal while the world slides away beyond it! Also the dried fish: I remember being very impressed by the chimneys in the Abbot's Kitchen.

Glastonbury Abbey makes me quietly, pleasantly sad- melancholy. It was the second greatest abbey in England and now it's just a field of ruins.

Yes, Henry VIII dissolved it- along with all the rest. The last abbot- Richard Whyting- opposed the king and was executed as a traitor on Glastonbury Tor.

I've been trying to identify the two images on the arch. I think the top one is Adam and Eve and the lower one the prodigal son being welcomed by his father.

Lovely shots! I particularly like the fish picture. The Abbot's Kitchen was my favorite part of the old Abbey. It held such a strong sense of presence.

The dried fish are awesome. That's an art gallery picture IMHO. It would look great in somebody's flash modern kitchen or on the cover of a cookbook. Wish I painted in oils, I would have a go at a Really Big copy.
