I Don't Know Anything About The Physics And Chemistry Of Burning Skyscrapers, But...

Who gained by 911?

Bin Laden did. He got the international jihad he presumably wanted.

Team Bush did. They got a never-ending war that allowed them to firm up their power (at the expense of the Constitution) and make lots and lots of lovely money.

The Bush clan and the Bin Laden clan have a history. They're allies, friends, business partners, whatever. They're on one another's Christmas card lists.

I think we'll stop there.

don't make the mistake of lumping GHWB and his errant son in the same category. I'm no fan of either the father OR the son (or Jeb, for that matter) but...well, never mind about that.

I've often thought it strange that when the Present Person Occupying the Oval Office starts to have problems with his approval rating, suddenly the terrorist alerts start to change color.

Of course, the approval ratings can't get much lower now...

They're part of the same dynasty. Henry VII was a better king than Henry VIII, but the one led to the other.

Dynasties are a bad idea. For someone to succeed to the throne just because of his genes is a bad idea. It's an idea you guys are supposed to have got rid of in 1776.

Bingo.

Although I'm not really a radical conspiracy freak.

The most horrifying thing is that few people I know would be at all surprised if the crazy theories ended up being correct...

We now know that America's involvement in the Vietnam war was "triggered" by an incident that never actually took place. This is a world in which the unthinkable is happening all the time.

Who'd have believed- a few years back- that a spokesman for the American governemt would dismiss the Geneva Convention as "quaint"?

It can't all be about oil, can it?

Yes.
