I love the lighting in this photo.
It reminds me of an Italian kitchen

The cake's coming along!

The lighting's great. The heat isn't. It's causing the icing to dry out.

But I think we're winning.

I really like the way the light falls in this picture. The heavy shadow is balance by the pure white of the icing sugar.

I've had to take about 70 shots in order to get one that works.

I daren't ask the gals to stand still and pose....

Thanks. But I think yours is cuter!

"Llygoden" is mouse in Welsh, so that's why the mouse is my default icon.

How cool! How do you pronounce it?

If you want to have a go at pronouncing "llygoden", the double-L at the beginning is the tricky part. You put the tip of your tongue just behind your front teeth, as though you're about to say "L", but then you breathe out, as though you are saying the "th" of "breath". Keep the tongue relaxed and if you find you're making a nice wet hissing sound, you're doing it right! "Y" in Welsh is pronounced here as "uh". The "goden" bit is easy. Just remember it's a short "o", like in God. The stress goes on the middle syllable.

Thlugodden is a fair approximation.

Yes I have to agree with the others. This is an especially nice picture, probably because of the pure white setting off the very dark shadows.

I took it from the backyard looking in through the kitchen window.

Are you getting to taste-test the results?

Not until Saturday.

But we've all been licking our fingers...

Very Vermeer.

The Lady with the White Icing.

Those 17th century painters knew a thing or two about light.

*Amazing* shot. Definitely Vermeer.

Thanks.

As others have said, the lighting is perfect. I love the domesticity of the scene and the concentration of your cake maker.

Ruth was impressed. She said this shot made it clear just how much love she was putting into the cake. :)
