Journey Into Autumn

There's a scene in Journey Into Autumn (1954) where Harriet Anderson is going through her sugar-daddy's record collection. She rejects Bach's Saraband in favour of something with a bit of a beat.

Flighty young thing.

In 2003 Bergman makes Saraband - with Bach on the soundtrack.

And Anderson's thowaway moment now means something else.  The young Bergman is winking at the old Bergman and the old Bergman is winking back.

I haven't seen Kvinnodröm, but it's been on my list a while! I need to get Netflix, I really do!

Bergman is very hit and miss. This is one of the hits. Not exactly a masterpiece but charming and beautifully made, with hints of underlying horror.
