Waste Not Want Not

This morning I am wearing a shirt from the pub where Joe used to work. He had no further use for it and passed it on. It has the name of the pub embroidered over the breast and the words Greene King embroidered on the sleeve.

Because it is cold and wet I am also wearing a woolly jumper in my mother's racing colours (the cross of Lorrain in yellow on a dark green background). She had no further use for it and passed it on.

I look like an elderly jockey. And if I take off a layer I look like an elderly barman.

It amuses me.

OK, I probably wouldn't wear these things on the street, but why throw them out when they're still perfectly serviceable?

I don't like getting rid of stuff.  If I didn't have Ailz to keep me in order this house would be piled floor to ceiling with things that "might come in useful one of these days".

I believe you have an afflication, the Latin term for which is "Packus Rattus." I have those tendencies, but try to curb them!

I've had friends who were severely afflicted.

Living room floors covered with piles of books- so you had to pick your way through- that sort of thing.

My mom has packus rattus of the biblio variety!

Your mother was a jockey? Or she owned race horses?

Checks and balances...I exercise the same sort of effect on Manolo´s hoarding tendencies.
:)

She owns race horses. It's the hobby (and more than a hobby) of her old age.

Ok, I want to see pictures now :)

Your wish is my command.

I fight against that tendency, which of course then gets countered by the thought of just dumping more things into the local landfill. My only real solution has been to wear something out until it's literally falling apart, and take advantage of libraries, movie rentals, and similar services so I don't continue to accumulate stuff.

I too wear things until they fall apart- or until Ailz chucks them.

I'm not a great one for buying things- except for DVDs (which don't take up much room)- but once an object falls into my clutches you're gonna have difficulty prying my fingers loose.

I have the same affliction, I'm trying to clear out my room right now and it's hell.

And Greene King - Yay for a Suffolk Brewery! It's in Bury

Greene King is based in Suffolk? I didn't know that. So what is it doing owning pubs in Bolton?

The jockey look is FABULOUS! You look awesome in green.

Thank you.I like green- in spite (or perhaps because) of my mother-in-law's superstitious dread of it.

I'm glad because you look excellent in it!
